To promote and maintain healthy lifestyle choices in Oklahoma through preventive, community-based, school health education programs for students, their families, and faculty. HSOK provides funding, curricula, training, evaluation tools and support to participating elementary schools focusing on physical activity, nutrition, injury prevention, tobacco use prevention and oral health education. HSOK uses a highly collaborative private-public structure that multiples and magnifies resources such as volunteers, information, funding and ongoing support services. HSOK is funded in part by a grant from the Oklahoma State Medical Association Foundation.

WHO WE ARE
Healthy Schools OK, was created in 1997 with an overall goal to combat Oklahoma’s declining health status. The original program began with eight elementary schools in the Oklahoma City Public School District.
Currently, HSOk is impacting 64 elementary schools with more than 35,000 students, family members and faculty. Nationally recognized and awarded for its outstanding efforts, HSOk is listed as a best practice model for Oklahoma. Schools selected to enter the HSOk program work with their Healthy and Fit School Advisory committees to identify needs, establish goals and implement plans to improve the well being of their entire school community.
Over the years, HSOk has evolved as the growing changes or our schools and the health of our state's students have changed. Through it all though, the organization has been consistent in its mission to promote and maintain healthy lifestyle choices in Oklahoma through preventive, community-based, school health education programs for students, their families, and faculty.
