ACTION BASED LEARNING

Healthy Schools OK provides Action Based Learning Labs (ABL) for interested schools that meets the requirements and as funding is available. Each ABL school receives approximately $15,000 worth of kinesthetic equipment and academic tools to use in the labs. Schools also receive extensive training and staff development. The objective is for each child in the school to have an opportunity to spend at least 40 minutes per week doing additional physical activity designed to support academic learning in the ABL lab.
Action Based Learning (ABL) involves teaching academic concepts while incorporating kinesthetic movement in a lab setting. This combination allows a positive learning experience that has been proven to increase academic scores, decrease discipline issues and increase attendance. Research has shown that action based learning improves memory retention, reinforces academic concepts and balances brain chemicals. The ABL lab is an extension of the classroom and does not compete for “academic” time.
