Local Schools Find Increased Activity Significantly Decreases Discipline Problems Through Partnership with HSOk
August 15, 2017 (Oklahoma City) - As a new school year begins, teachers and principals are working to make sure every detail is in order. This includes the detail of discipline. One Oklahoma City school, however, is not anticipating nearly the discipline problems this year thanks to the Action Based Learning Lab (ABL) students use throughout the week.

OKC Schools Recieve Top Awards
Oklahoma City – Seventy schools across the state are teaching students how to live a healthy lifestyle and make good choices regarding nutrition and fitness as part of the Schools for Healthy Lifestyles program. Central Elementary, Putnam City; Coolidge Elementary, Oklahoma City; and Tinker Elementary, Mid-Del were recognized at the annual SHL awards reception.

Grand Opening of Action Based Learning Lab at Jefferson Elementary School
Jefferson Elementary School is hosting a Grand Opening for their new, state of the art, Action Based Learning (ABL) lab on September 22, 2016 at the school. All media is invited to attend. The $11,000 ABL lab was installed this year providing the school with equipment that the students can utilize throughout the school day to be physically active and academically engaged. The lab was provided by Schools for Healthy Lifestyles, a statewide, nonprofit that seeks to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles in Oklahoma students.

Groundbreaking Action Based Learning Labs in 7 Area Elementary Schools
As teachers and students head back to class, there is constant concern about how students learn best. Should we spend more time in the classroom? More time on mathematics? Reading? Testing? One thing that is certain is that elementary students learn best when they are active. Educational research suggests that about 85% of school age students are predominantly kinesthetic learners. This very reason is why Schools for Healthy Lifestyles is providing seven schools an Action Based Learning Lab.
